Fall color in the prairie…

The prairie has taken on its fall colors. This is the time when you can see where the prairie grass are on a large scale. As I look out over the prairie it looks like an irregular patchwork quilt. I can see areas that are a beautiful orange-rust color and I know that is where the little bluestem is. Then there are tawny patches and I know those are areas where indian grass and big bluestem are more dominant. There are also patches of purple and this is the smooth aster clusters. Lastly there are patches of green… these are areas where the non-native brome grasses dominate.
